Senate Republican leaders Monday released their long-awaited
proposal for a fifth round of coronavirus relief. The
legislation, which represents a counteroffer to the House-passed
HEROES Act (HR 6800), does NOT include federal
financial support for state and local governments to address the
ongoing public health and economic consequences of the COVID-19
pandemic.
County officials are encouraged to contact their Member of
Congress TODAY to urge them to support the inclusion of
robust direct federal financial support to all counties in the
next COVID-19 relief package. Call and text your Member of
Congress today.

appointed a significant number of California County
representatives to serve as Chairs, Vice Chairs and members for

Food is Medicine Thanks to Solano County’s Mobile Food Pharmacy

CSAC is spotlighting this 2023 Challenge Award program, which
was in place prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nearly half of all Solano County residents live in “food
deserts,” areas with limited access to healthy and affordable
food. About 15 percent of County resident experience food
insecurity, defined as being without reliable access to a
sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. Acknowledging
the established link between health outcomes and good nutrition,
Solano County instituted a fresh produce prescription program and
the We’re All Family! Mobile Food Pharmacy.
“You get this big box of food and fresh produce that helps reduce
your food bill every month,” said Erin Hannigan, Solano County
Supervisor. “I have heard there are several customers from our
clinics who have received the food and changed how they eat,
which has changed their need for heart medication, which reduced
their need for insulin for diabetes.”
